Linking exhibits
RB9 only
Create RB-PDF Transcripts with hyperlinked exhibits embedded inside the transcripts. You can link exhibits to PDF transcripts as you create the transcripts or add them later in the separate Link Exhibits function.
NOTE: Save time with pre-set linking patterns
Before using Link Exhibits, set up a default list of commonly used exhibit file names with their transcript aliases (the words and phrases used in transcripts to reference the exhibits) in Setup > Link Exhibits Patterns. (See Setting up alias patterns.)
Continued from Finishing PDF transcripts or Finding PDFs for linking exhibits.
- After clicking Link Exhibits in either a PDF Transcript window or Link Exhibits window, the Link Exhibits-[transcript].pdf panel appears. Job and case information displayed is not editable. You can:
-

-
Do not link first X pages
Enter the number of pages at the start of the transcript you do not want hyperlinks on.
Do not link last X pages
Enter the number of pages at the end of the transcript you do not want hyperlinks on.
- Click Next.
- To designate which exhibits will be hyperlinked in the transcripts and which words in the transcripts will used for the hyperlinks, see Using alias patterns.
- Check the box in the Aliases panel header to select all of the patterns or check individual boxes to select them, then click Next.
- When linking is finished, depending on which function you are in:
-
PDF Transcripts
RB9 closes the panels, adds the hyperlinked transcript (denoted with -LE suffix on the file name), and grays out the Link Exhibits button in the PDF Transcript window.
-
Link Exhibits
The Sign & Save to Repository panel appears. To digitally sign the transcript, see Adding signatures to PDF transcripts. If not signing the transcript, click Save. RB9 closes the panels and lists the hyperlinked transcript in the Link Exhibits window (denoted with -LE suffix on the file name).
NOTE: Link exhibits before digitally signing transcripts
When using Link Exhibits, if you attempt to link exhibits to a transcript that has already been digitally signed, a popup will appear warning you that this is not allowed because it would invalidate the digital certificate.
TIP: Hyperlinked exhibits open in their original format
When your clients open the PDF, they can view any exhibit image in its native format by clicking a hyperlinked reference to it in the PDF. They do not have to maintain any additional files or file structure to access the exhibits.
