Entering retainers
If a client pays you an upfront deposit, i.e., a retainer, enter and track that in RB.
- In the Collections pane of an Edit Firm window, Retainer Amount displays the balance of any upfront deposits paid by the firm. Click
.
- In the View Retainer History panel, all retainers paid by the client and which invoices the retainers were applied to appear. To add new retainer amounts, click New.
- In the New Retainer window, enter text or make selections:
- Click Save. The retainer appears in the View Retainer History list, and the amount is added to balance in the Retainer Amount field in the Collections pane of the Edit Firm window.
IMPORTANT: Retainers are miscellaneous receipts
If you are depositing the retainer check into your checking account, you should enter a miscellaneous receipt transaction so that it will be reflected on your deposit total. See Entering miscellaneous receipts.
